The Story
Duchess Cupcake is a refined feline alchemist whose laboratory is in a state of permanent, charming disarray. Bottles tip, primaries blend in the wrong vials, tertiaries refuse to settle. The Duchess hires you — a junior apprentice — to bring order to her shelves and, occasionally, to brew the exact potion she's decided she absolutely must have right now.
Three Modes, One Cauldron
Rather than ship a single sorting mechanic, the game offers three flavors of the same core idea, each with its own win condition and pacing:
- Alchemy Lab — the campaign. Mix primaries to fulfill the Duchess's potion orders while keeping the rest of the shelves tidy.
- Lab Cleanup — pure sorting, no mixing. A calmer mode for players who want the satisfaction of a perfectly organized rack.
- The Chromatorium — the advanced mode. Brew all twelve tertiary colors using a dedicated mixing vial and a chromatic order wheel.
Design Philosophy
Three principles guided the build:
- No timers, no lives, no energy. Puzzles should reward patience, not punish thinking. Take as long as you want.
- No accounts, no tracking. The game runs entirely in your browser. Progress lives in localStorage, and we never ask for an email address.
- Mobile-first, but playable anywhere. The bottle layout scales from a phone in portrait to a desktop browser without compromise.
Tech & Credits
Cauldron Chaos is a React + TanStack Start single-page app, rendered with SVG bottles, custom CSS animations, and Web Audio API sound effects. All puzzles are generated by a constructive solver that guarantees solvability and computes a realistic par for each level.
Built with care by an independent developer. If you enjoy the game, the best way to support it is to share it with a friend or tackle the Daily Brew each morning.
